Welcome to Polaris Pole Dance – Wellington City’s Dedicated Pole Dance and Fitness Studio! We teach pole dance to women and men of all ages, shapes, and sizes in a positive, fun, and encouraging atmosphere. We aim to help all of our students to gain strength, improve fitness, and build confidence through learning this amazing aerial dance form. At Polaris Pole Dance you’ll enjoy our exciting, creative and inspiring lessons, and get an awesome complete body work out while having a whole lot of fun!
Our classes are perfectly suited for absolute beginners through to experienced pole artists, and are held at our beautiful central city studio. We hold lessons five days a week, including Saturdays, and we offer both Co-Ed and women-only classes so we’re sure we have a class to suit you. So come in with an open mind and a positive attitude and we’re sure you’ll soon be hooked!
What is Pole Fitness?
Pole fitness is an entirely unique dance experience that combines stunning spins, holds, poses, and breathtaking aerial tricks with graceful movement, transitions, and cool dance moves. You’ll learn to lift and move your body around a stainless steel pole while incorporating dance moves and body movements taken from Ballet, Salsa, Hip-Hop, Jazz, gymnastics, and exotic dance.
Aerial pole dance uses similar skills to stunning circus arts like aerial silks or Lyra, but is also a beautifully adaptable dance form. This means you can put together a performance as structured, graceful, challenging or sexy as you like, and you are limited only by your imagination! This flexibility means Pole Fitness has become the latest fitness craze for both women and men, and Pole Dance offers many amazing benefits including:

Pole Dance is a fantastic cardiovascular workout, which will increase your heart rate and burn fat, while strengthening and toning muscles. You’ll be supported and encouraged to help develop your own personal dancer’s style, which will boost your confidence and improve your self-image. But the best part is that you can achieve all these fantastic benefits while having FUN!

Frequently Asked Questions
When can I start?Now! At Polaris you’re not locked into a class term, and you can sign up to a Beginners class at any time. You’re encouraged to learn and progress at your own pace, allowing you as much time as you need to perfect your skills.
What do I wear?We want you to be comfortable, and to get the most out of your class, so we suggest you wear a T-shirt or singlet on top, and a pair of short shorts or hotpants on the bottom. Your shorts need to really short, as you’ll be using your thighs to grip the pole, and long pants will get in the way.
What don’t I wear?Oils, lotions, self tans, or moisturisers! You don’t want these on your legs, arms or hands, as they can leave an oily residue on the pole which can be dangerous and make it difficult to grip the pole. If you suffer from very dry skin, and need to keep your skin moisturised, please contact us for advice.
I’m not fit/flexible/strong/sexy enough to pole dance.Pole dance is for everyone! Our students include mothers, nurses, students, builders, and even grandmothers! Our lessons are designed for absolute beginners who have no dance or fitness background, and will teach you everything you need to know to get started. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your strength and fitness develops.
